Guided surgery means we plan the implant position on a 3D model of your jaw first, then place it using a surgical guide made from that plan. The point is accuracy: the fixture ends up where it was planned, not where it looked right on the day.
How it differs from conventional placement
In conventional placement the surgeon judges angle and depth during the operation. In guided placement that judgement happens beforehand, on a CT-derived 3D model, where nerve position, sinus floor and bone density are all visible.

- A printed guide transfers the plan to your mouth.
- Many cases can be done flapless – a small access opening instead of opening the gum – which usually means less swelling and a faster recovery.
Guided surgery is a tool, not a different treatment. Whether it suits your case depends on the anatomy we see on the scan.
When it matters most
The narrower the margin for error, the more the planning is worth. That includes upper molars close to the sinus, sites near the mental nerve, thin ridges, and any case where several implants must line up to carry a bridge.
For a straightforward single implant with generous bone, the clinical result may be the same either way. We will tell you which situation you are in.
What to expect on the day
The scan and planning happen before your surgical appointment, so the appointment itself is usually shorter than patients expect. You will see your own plan on screen and we will walk you through it in English before we start.
We give you a written treatment plan and a cost estimate before anything begins, so you know the total before you commit. If the plan changes after we see your CT scan, we tell you why and what it changes before we proceed.

Does guided surgery cost more?
It adds a planning and guide-fabrication step. Whether that changes your total depends on the case; we show it as a line item in your written estimate so you can see exactly what it is.
Is flapless surgery always possible?
No. It depends on gum thickness and bone shape. We decide after the CT scan and tell you before the appointment.
How long is recovery after guided placement?
Most patients return to normal activity the next day. Swelling, when it occurs, usually peaks around day 2 and settles within a week. Healing before the crown stage still takes months.
Can you use my CT scan from another clinic?
Sometimes, if it is recent and the field of view and resolution are adequate for planning. Send it to us and we will tell you before you travel.
